Thomas "Tommy" Allen New

Thomas "Tommy" Allen New, Sr., 80, resident of 301 Brooks St., widower of Betty Pitts New, passed away Monday Oct. 24, 2011 at his home.

Born in Abbeville, SC, he was a son of the late Albert Henry New and Irene Bell Finley New.

Tommy was a retired textile employee with Abbeville Mills Milliken Plant with over 40 years of service. He was also a very active and faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church. Tommy was a master mason and a member of the Clinton Lodge # 3 AFM. Tommy was also an active member of the Southern Squares Square Dancing Club for many years.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Edie New of Abbeville, SC, Alicia Arnold and her husband, Fred, of Florence, SC and Julie New of Abbeville, SC; 2 sons, Thomas "Allen" New, Jr. and his wife, Rosemary, of Greenville, SC and Kenny New and his wife, Danette, of Hartsville, SC; 1 sister, Doris New of Abbeville, SC; special family member Sharon New Hughes of Abbeville, SC; a special friend Thomas Brewer; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son Rusty New and 2 brothers Dean and Sanford New.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday Oct. 27, 2011 at 12:00 Noon in Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jason Wilson officiating with Masonic Rites to follow. Interment will be at a later date. The family will be on Dundas Rd. Abbeville, SC.

The body is at the Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 PM Thursday afternoon at Grace UMC prior to services.
