Ted "Teddy" Montgomery Allen

Ted Montgomery Allen, son of Mary Lee Allen and the late Sgt. Frank Edward Allen, went to be with his Lord on July 19th, 2017.

Born March 22, 1957, Ted was raised in Abbeville, where he graduated from Abbeville High School in 1975. To follow his lifelong passion for air travel, Ted enlisted in the Army to receive training in air traffic control. After an Honorable Discharge, he was hired by the Federal Aviation Administration to work as an Air Traffic Controller.

During his tenure with the FAA, Ted proudly continued his service to our country in the Air National Guard, and was recognized numerous times for performing emergency evasive actions that prevented accidents and saved lives. After retiring from air traffic control, Ted was hired into his current position as instructor at the FAA training facility in Oklahoma City.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, Clemson football, and helping anyone in need. He had a passion for the Boy Scouts, and for several years was the Cub master for Pack 221 in Simpsonville.

In addition to his mother, Mary Smith Allen of Abbeville, SC, Ted is survived by his beloved ex-wife, Joan Watzin Allen of Greenville, three sons, Stephen Allen (Dorothy) of Wetumpka, AL, Jeff Allen, and Mark Allen, both of Greenville; his brother, Mike Allen of Abbeville, sister, Angela Stokes (Ken) of Augusta, GA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday afternoon July 24, 2017 from 12:45 until 1:45 in the sanctuary at Main St. United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, July 24th at Main Street UMC Abbeville, SC conducted by Rev. Leon Thompson. The burial will follow in Oakbrook Memorial Park, Greenwood, SC with Military Honors.

The family is at the home of his mother Mrs. Mary Allen 324 Old Douglas Mill Rd. Abbeville, SC.

Dear All, I was so shocked to hear of Teddy's passing. Although, I have not seen him in so many years, I have always had so much love and respect for the entire family. May God Bless you All, Harby

Your family is in my prayers. As you gather your good memories, know that we also had good memories of a fine young man.

Dear Allen Family you all will be in my thoughts and prayers during this time of sorrow. I have great memories of Teddy growing up and saw him several years ago after his retirement. May you find comfort in all your great memories.

I feel honored to have known and worked with Ted in the early 90s at GSO as an Air Traffic Controller. He always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell! He spoke often of his family and his love for them was self evident. I didn't stay in touch with Ted all these years as is the norm in our profession, but he is missed.

So sorry to hear about Ted. Although we did not have the pleasure of knowing him, just knowing that he was Mary Allen's son and Mike's brother, tells us he was a special guy. May God wrap his loving arms around you all and give you strength, peace and joy in knowing that you will see him again! With Our Love, Langdon and Sandra Erwin
