Stuart Blake Copeland

Stuart Blake Copeland, Sr., 85, resident of The Ashley House formerly of 400 Orange St. widower of Louise Allen Copeland passed away Saturday March 8, 2008 at Hospice of the Piedmont, Hospice House in Greenwood, SC.

Born on Clinton, SC he was a son of the late Guy and Margaret Stewart Copeland.

Stuart was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He was a retired railroad conductor with the CSX Railroad. Stuart was also a mason and a member of the Clinton Lodge # 3 AFM and also a Shriner and a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple in Greenville, SC.Stuart worked for a number of years on the Abbeville City Council and was also a member of the Auxiliary Civic Civil Defense Association. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

survivors are: 1 daughter Nadine Bowles and her husband William of Tallassee, Alabama; 3 sons Rhett Copeland and his wife Elaine of Abbeville, SC, Jimmy Copeland and his wife Judy of Abbeville, SC and Kenny Phillips of Abbeville, SC; 2 brothers Gene Copeland and his wife Rosemary of Abbeville, SC and Bill Copeland and his wife Jean of Greenwood, SC; 1 sister Esse Erickson and her husband Paul of Abbeville, SC; sister-in-law Margaret Copeland of Due West, SC; brother-in-law Jimmy Allen and his wife Glenda of Cayce, SC; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.A number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son Stuart Blake Copeland, Jr. and a brother Guy Copeland.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday March 10, 2008 at 2:00 PM in the Chandler Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Smith, Jr. officiating. The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery with Military honors and Masonic rites.

Stuart is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home where the family will recieve friends Monday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to services.
