Sarah "Sally" C. Romein

Sarah C. (Sally) Romein, 90, widow of Dr. Tunis Romein, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007 at Carlisle Nursing Center at Due West Retirement Center.
Born in Clarksburg, W. Virginia on Dec. 31, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Bertha Harris. After graduating from Massachusetts Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse, she served as an Army Nurse, a lieutenant, during WWII in Jorhat, Assam, India in the China-Burma-India Theatre in an Army hospital where American and Chinese troops who were pushing into southern China were treated. It was during her military service that she met and married her husband. After moving to Due West in 1955 she served as a registered nurse for many years at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital, as well as volunteering her services as a nurse to many in the community.
She was a member of the Due West ARP Church, past president of the Women of the Church, and was for forty years a member of the church choir.
She is survived by five children, Tunis Romein III of Charleston, SC, Bruce Romein of Rock Hill, SC, Mrs. Hack (Libby) Bartley of Hodges, SC, Mrs. Mike (Vandy) Smith of Spartanburg, SC and David Romein of Goose Creek, SC; as well as eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Hers was a life of consistent Christian love and service and she will be sorely missed by her family and many friends in Due West and in Abbeville County.
