Sammy Cannon

April 8, 1950 — February 17, 2018

Samuel "Sammy" Atticus Cannon, 67, resident of 104 Arlington Lane, Gatewood Community husband of Judy Bowen Cannon passed away Saturday Feb. 17, 2018 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
Sammy was born April 8, 1950 in Abbeville, SC a son of the late Luray Atticus Cannon and Helen Amanda Uldrick Cannon.

Sammy was a graduate of Abbeville High School and Piedmont Technical College where he earned a degree in Drafting. He was the Owner & Operator of S&J Piping Company and the former owner of MBC Construction Company. Sammy was an active member of Tranquil United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees within the church most recently serving as chair of the Finance Committee. Sammy loved the outdoors as he was an avid golfer and loved spending time at the beach. He was a very devoted family man as he loved all his children dearly. His eyes would especially light up when he and Judy were spending time spoiling their grandchildren. The true joy and love of his life was spending time with his beautiful wife Judy as they shared many good times and memories during their 17 years of marriage.

The family would like to extend a sincere THANK YOU to Dr. James Bearden with Gibbs Cancer Center in Spartanburg, SC for his loving care and attention to Sammy during his illness since 2013.

Survivors include his beloved wife Judy Bowen Cannon of the home; three daughters Kelli Stoddard (Ben) of Hendersonville, NC, Mandi Janezeck (Jason) of Virginia Beach, VA and Lesli Knabe (Duane) Simpsonville, SC; two step-sons Adam Smith (Rena) and Clint Smith all of Abbeville, SC; one step-daughter Brooke Smith of Abbeville, SC; his twin sister Susan Arnold of Boiling Springs, SC; ten grandchildren Kayleigh Smith, Alli Jefferson, Landon Smith, Maddison Smith, Braeden Cason, Walt Smith, L.C. Smith, Maci Smith, Jackson Knabe and Cannon Janezeck.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Cannon.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Tranquil United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Shawn Armstrong and Rev. Luke Mims officiating. The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery in Abbeville, SC. The family will be at the Cannon home, 104 Arlington Lane, Greenwood, SC.

The family will receive friends Monday evening Feb. 19, 2018 at the Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home in Abbeville, SC from 5:00 until 7:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers memorials in memory of Sammy may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1990 Augusta St., #600 Greenville, SC 29605.
