Ruth New Simpson

Ruth New Simpson, 79, formerly of 1008 S. Main St., died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003 at Self Regional Medical Center, Greenwood.

Born in Abbeville County, she was a retired textile employee with flexible technologist and was a member of the Congregational Holiness Church, where she was also a member of the Women's Sunday school class.

Surviving are sons, Randall Simpson of Hickory Knob and Douglas "Skeeter" Simpson of Lake Secession, Abbeville; daughters, Alane Taylor of Abbeville and Tracy Hutto of Greenwood; sister, Evelyn White of Anderson; brother, Darrell New of Abbeville; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was the widow of Guy Simpson and the daughter of the late Miller and Clarkie New. She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Congregational Holiness Church by the Rev. Tye Sorrow; burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the social hall of the church before services.

The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rhett Simpson, 313 Noble Drive, Abbeville, and at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tracy Hutto, 634 Cobb Road, Greenwood.
