Rose Burns Simpson, the beloved wife of fifty-nine years of Col. John Adam Simpson died on September 3, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).
Rose was born in Richburg Community of Chester County SC on August 7, 1929. She was the daughter of the late David Calvin "Dave" and Rose Burns Reid.
In 1946 Rose graduated from the first class of Lewisville High School in Richburg SC. She went on to earn a degree in Teaching from Erskine College and began her teaching career in Florence and Columbia SC and Fort Benning Georgia.
Rose was the perfect Army Wife and was able to establish a lovely home wherever the family was stationed. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Rose enjoyed decorating, entertaining and was always a gracious hostess.
Rose was a member of the Due West ARP Church. She enjoyed being a member of the book & garden club and was a member of the Due West Lions Club.
Rose is survived by her husband and three children; son Col. John A. (Karen) Simpson, Jr.; daughter Mary Jane (Fred) Woerner; son Steven R. (Dana) Simpson; four grandsons John A. Simpson, Freddie Woerner, Michael John Woerner, William Woerner and four granddaughters Grace Simpson, Nell Simpson, Taylor Simpson and Jordan Simpson.
A graveside service will be conducted by Reverend Calvin Draffin on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Union ARP Church Cemetery in Richburg SC. Memorial services will follow at 3:30 PM at the Due West ARP Church in Due West SC. Visitation will immediately follow the memorial service.
