Reverend Charles Hobart Sides

Reverend Charles Hobart Sides, Jr., 93, resident of Presbyterian Community of SC husband of Virginia Smith Sides passed away Sunday May 10, 2015 at the Presbyterian Home.

Born in Loray, NC March 1, 1922, he was a son of the late Charles Hobart Sides and Laura Sumner Bartlett Sides.

Rev. Sides was a retired Presbyterian minister. He was a graduate of Mitchell Junior College in Statesville, NC and a Honors graduate of Davidson College in Davidson, NC and graduated from Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Virginia Class of 1946. Rev. Sides served numerous churches during his ministry including Benton Heights Presbyterian Church in Monroe, NC (1946-1948), Little Joe's Presbyterian Church, Barium Springs, NC (1948-1954), Harrisburg Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg, NC (1954-1961), Limestone Presbyterian Church, Gaffney, SC (1961-1974) and Abbeville Presbyterian Church, Abbeville, SC (1974-1987). He was married December 5, 1948, First Baptist Church, Monroe, NC to the former Virginia Hill Smith, Monroe, NC.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years of the home; two sons Charles Hobart (Bart) Sides, III, Ph.D. and his wife Nancy Spotts Sides of Westminster, MA and Daniel Howard (Danny) Sides and his wife Amanda Wier Sides of Taylors, SC; four grandchildren Adoniram Bartlett Sides (Melanie) of Leominster, MA, Hannah Ellington Sides of New York City, Jennifer Ellen Sides of Taylors, SC and Jonathan Troy Sides (McKinley) of Taylors, SC; a great-granddaughter Kezia Paige Sides.
He was preceded in death by a sister Mary Helen Sides Galbreath.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday May 13, 2015 at 2:00 PM in Abbeville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Lee Kennerly officiating. The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:00 PM in the Telford Parlor at Abbeville Presbyterian Church prior to services.

Memorials in memory of Rev. Sides may be made to a charity of one's choice.
