Ralph Pickens Loftis, 70, of Hwy. 20 in Abbeville County died at his home Saturday March 7, 2009 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Abbeville Co. a son of the late Grady C. Loftis and Mary Lee Cochran Loftis.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years Marjean Ambrose Loftis; two daughters Jan Loftis and Mrs. Anthony Fisher; four granddaughters Mrs. Stacey Ouzts, Haylee and DaNae' Fisher and Kascie Collins; three grandsons Ryan Fisher, Ricky Fisher and Justin Fisher; Nine great-grandchildren; Two sisters Mrs. Dan Brown and Mrs. Sloan Brock; one brother Grady C. Loftis.
He was preceded in death by a sister Thelma and a brother James.
He was employed for many years with Guy Motors in Anderson and retired from United Parcel Services in Greenville.
Ralph was an active member of Bethlehem ARP Church as long as his health permitted. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and restoring old cars.
He was a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple in Greenville, SC and was named Man of the Year in 1991 for his driving skills in the Corvette Mini-Car Unit. This unit participated in many parades in the area. He was also given the Gold Leaf Potentate's Award for outstanding service in support of Shriners Hospitals for Crippled and Burned Children.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 3:00 PM in Bethlehem ARP Church with the Reverend James Laughner officiating. Burial will follow in Oakbrook Memorial Park in Greenwood, SC.
Ralph is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home were the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday evening. The family is at the home 3666 Hwy. 20 Donalds, SC.
