Polly G. McMahan, 87, formerly of Lake Secession and a resident of the Renaissance Sr. Living in Due West, SC, and wife of the late John F. McMahan, passed away Friday Feb. 3, 2023 at NHC Nursing Home in Laurens, SC.
She was a daughter of the late John O. Gooch and Ruby Kyle Gooch.
Polly graduated from Calhoun Falls Night School, retired from Rocky River Mills, and then worked at Diamond Hill Elementary School in the lunchroom. Her hobbies included flowers, ceramics, Sr. trips, dancing, card games, and bingo, but her grands were her LIFE! She attended their ballgames as often as she could. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Iva, SC.
Survivors include: her daughter Susan Burton (Gerald); her son Terry McMahan (Diana), and honorary son, Paul Thompson (Allison); sister Nancy Crook; five grandchildren Angie Strickland (Mike), Robert Parnell (Katie), Denise Todd (Walter), Derrick Burton (Leah), and Bryan Burton (Rachel); nine great-grandchildren Lillie Grace, Hunter, Dakota, Caden, Austin, Dylan, Delanee, Sawyerr and Kirby.
A Celebration of Polly’s life will be conducted Sunday Feb. 5, 2023 at 3:00 PM in the Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Gray officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00 until 3:00 PM in the Chapel prior to services. The family will be at the home of her daughter Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Burton 264 Third Ave. Iva, SC.
The McMahan family would like to express a special THANK YOU to the nurses and staff at NHC in Laurens, SC and Hospice of Laurens SC for the loving and passionate care they gave to Polly in her final days.
