Peggy Fowler Ballenger

Peggy Fowler Ballenger, 71, resident of 404 Byrnes Ave., widow of Arthur Ballenger, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the Hospice House in Greenwood, SC.

Born in Taylors, SC, she was a daughter of the late John C. Fowler and Catherine DeYoung Fowler.

Peggy retired after a very successful career in banking as the Manager of the Wachovia Bank in Abbeville, SC. Peggy was a faithful member of Abbeville First Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. Peggy was very instrumental in the development and erection of the monument in the town square honoring the soldiers who fought and served during Operation Desert Storm. She was also the chief organizer of a Support Group for the Operation Desert Storm families. Peggy was very active in civic organizations having been a former member of the Abbeville Rotary Club and the Abbeville Women's Club. Peggy will be remembered fondly for her loving and caring attitude towards others.

Survivors include her 3 sons John Ballenger and his wife, Lisa, of Abbeville, SC, Robbie Ballenger and his wife, Georgiana, and Brian Ballenger and his wife, Sarah, all of Greenwood, SC; her special companion, Bailey Hall and her special friend Jean Vinson; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 3:00 PM in The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kile Antone officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 PM Tuesday afternoon prior to services at the funeral home.
