Nora Odom Greene

July 25, 1925 — July 6, 2015

Nora Odom Greene, 89, resident of 182 Deer Run widow of Leman Edward Greene, Sr. passed away peacefully at her home Monday July 6, 2015.

Born in Girard, Georgia July 25, 1925 she was a daughter of the late Garnett Odom and Ruth Sutton Odom.

Nora graduated from Girard High School and attended Draughn's Business College. She worked faithfully for Abbeville Saving & Loan for a number of years before retiring.

She and Leman came to Abbeville in 1949 and she immediately became involved in Main St. United Methodist Church where she was a member for 66 years. She taught Sunday School in many classes over the years starting with the Nursery and until just a few years ago had continued in youth and adult classes. Served as President of United Methodist Women, Circle Leader, Member of Staff/Parrish Relations Committee, Finance Committee, served on planning committee of the Greene Center as it was being planned and built, Lay Leader, and has most recently served as Chairperson of the Administrative Council. As everyone knew the Stewardship Committee was very important to her and she served on this for several years. Also she had served on the Kitchen Committee that serves bereaved families at a death in their family. She was a Certified Lay Speaker for the Methodist Church.

She was a long standing member of The Heritage House. In the past she has served on the panel for the United Way of Abbeville. She also delivered for Meals on Wheels for 7 years.

She was proud to have been a part of The Disciple Course for the second time which meet once a week for 34 weeks to complete.

Her dedication to God, her husband, children, and grandchildren were the important things in her life.

While her hobby was reading she enjoyed fishing and camping with Leman.

Survivors are four children Jane (Frank) Tumminia of Abbeville, SC, Lee (Trudi) Greene of Lexington, SC, Jim Greene of Mount Holly, NC and Daniel (Tracey) Greene of Greer, SC; one sister Ruth (Loy) Reddick of Powder Springs, GA; eight grandchildren Carl (Jennifer) Hitchcock of Charleston, SC, Krista (Josh) Fox of Campobello, SC, Ed Greene of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Steven (Kristin) Greene of Cary, NC, Courtney (Justin) Turner of Liberty, SC, Emilie (Jake) Sommer of Washington, DC, Zan and Coby Greene of Greer, SC; seven great-grandchildren Okalani & Halana Fox, Maisie & Hugh Sommer, Lillian & Olivia Turner and Jaxon Greene.

She was preceded in death by a sister Julia Odom Radford.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday July 10, 2015 at Main St. United Methodist Church at 3:00 PM with Rev. Brian Arant and Dr. Steve Lowe officiating. The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery. The family is at 182 Deer Run in Abbeville, SC.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 PM Friday afternoon in the Greene Center at Main St. UMC prior to services.
