Mildred Frances Smith, 95, widow of the late Thomas Junior Smith, resident of Hwy 72 W., entered into rest Sunday, July 13, 2025, at her residence.
Born on October 18, 1929, in Winnsboro, SC to the late Jim and Hassie Rogers Kirkland, she was a Packer in the Medical Glove Industry. She moved from Ware Shoals to Abbeville over 30 years ago.
Mildred loved her family deeply; she especially enjoyed dancing with Junior at the Moose Lodge and always enjoyed their cruises and trips to the mountains and beaches. Mildred was an excellent cook and loved shopping, especially at Belk’s and Hamricks.
A member of Southside Baptist Church, she enjoyed the Friendship Sunday School class and all the senior trips they took.
Surviving are her grandchildren, Michael “Jay” Gilliam, Jr. of NC, and Christine Gilliam Kimsey and husband Jeff of Abbeville; 4 great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her siblings, she is also predeceased by her daughter, Sandra S Gilliam, and her son-in-law Michael J Gilliam, Sr., her grandson, Andrew Gilliam.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 10:00 AM from the Chandler Chapel of Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Bradberry and Rev. Donnie Murdock officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
