Mary McAdams Wakefield, 94, long time resident of Antreville, SC passed away October 24, 2008.
She spent the last few days in the Hospice House of the Piedmont, Greenwood, SC after several months of declining health while a resident of Forest View Manor Assisted Living, McCormick, SC.
She was the daughter of the late Samuel M. and Ada Fennel McAdams. She was the widow of her beloved husband of 57 years Samuel J. Wakefield.
She attended the University of South Carolina and completed accounting at Forrest Business School; Anderson, SC. She worked many years in the business office of Abney Mills, Anderson, SC. She was a lifetime member of Order of Eastern Star.
A long time member of First Creek Baptist Church, Antreville, she was a teacher and choir member.
Survivors are: her son Lieutenant General Samuel N. Wakefield, United States Army (Retired) and his wife Linda Bowen Wakefield of Savannah Lakes Village, McCormick, SC; two grandsons Richard and Norris who reside in Atlanta, GA and Norwalk, Conn respectively; 3 grandchildren Loren, Elliott and Samantha of Atlanta. two nieces Alice Brown Watkins of Miami, FL and Kay McAdams Lamb of Nashville, TN.
She was preceded in death by a sister Isabel McAdams Brown and a brother Samuel Chester McAdams.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday Nov. 1, 2008 at 11:00 AM from First Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Donnie Murdock officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Wakefield to Hospice of the Piedmont 408 W. Alexander Ave. Greenwood, SC 29646.
