Mary Jane Gentry Vandiver

Mary Jane Gentry Vandiver, 100, of Abbeville, SC, widow of Harold W. Vandiver passed away peacefully Wednesday June 4, 2008 at NHC in Greenwood.

Born on March 17, 1908 in Starr, SC, she was the daughter of the late Ben F. and Josephine Stucky Gentry.

She was a graduate of Anderson College and taught in the public school systems in Abbeville and Anderson counties at Campbell Elementary School and Starr Elementary School. She was a homemaker and a member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Chrysanthemum Garden Club.

Survivors include 2 daughters Harriett Richie and her husband Tom of Anderson, SC and Evelyn V. King and her husband Paul of Atlanta, GA; 2 sons Raymond Vandiver and his wife Sharon of Abbeville, SC and David Vandiver of Columbia, SC. 7 grandchildren Katie King, Anna King, Amy Finley, Jessica Vandiver, Tanya Crisley, Stephanie Richie Gates and David Richie; 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by two nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by 7 brothers Tom, Frank, Joe Berry, Moody, John, George and Russell Gentry.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted Saturday June 7, 2008 at 3:00 PM in the Chandler Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. L. Thomas Richie officiating. There will be a private family burial prior to services.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Saturday afternoon at the funeral home prior to services.
