Mary Louise Sprouse Thomas

August 19, 1918 — February 28, 2004

Mary Louise Sprouse Thomas, 85, a resident of Abbeville, SC died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004 at the home of her daughter in Decatur, GA.

She was born August 19, 1918 to the late Clifton and Idona Pressley Sprouse in Abbeville, Sc. She graduated from Erskine College in 1940 with a degree in English. She married the late Col. Eber H. Thomas, Jr. on Nov. 2, 1940.

Mary was a beautiful, slender lady who loved decorating her home with treasures from traveling as an Army wife. She was a Red Cross volunteer at Tripler Medical Center in Honolulu, HI and President of the Ladies Golf Club in Ft. Leavenworth, KS. She enjoyed playing golf and rarely lost at cards. She was also an active member of Main St. United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Carol Lee Thomas-Sharp of Morgantown, WV and Mary Katherine Thomas of Decatur, GA; a brother, Clifton Alvin Sprouse of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Nancy Blair Sprouse Stroud of Virginia Beach, VA; her two granddaughters, Meredith Lee Trockman of Honolulu, HI and Julia Hillary Trockman of Morgantown, WV; a great-granddaughter, Zoe Kaia Trockman of Honolulu, HI.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at 2:00 PM from Main St. United Methodist Church with the Revs. Bob Clemons and Don McKinney officiating. The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery.

The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday evening. The family will be staying at The Belmont Inn while in Abbeville.

In Lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Foundation, Woodholme Medical Building; Suite 515 1838 Greene Free Rd., Baltimore, MD 21208 or to Main St. United Methodist Church, 300 N. Main St., Abbeville, SC 29620.
