Martin Duran Saylors

Martin Duran Saylors, 81, resident of 41 Flat Rock Rd. husband of Mary Wilson Saylors, passed away Sunday Nov. 24, 2013 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood, SC.

Born in Anderson County SC, he was a son of the late William Herbert Saylors, Sr. and Selma Fisher Saylors.

Martin was retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglass with over 37 years of service. He was the former owner and operator of Saylors Store for 22 years. He was currently a part time employee of Abbeville County Convenience Center. Martin was a member of Little Mountain Presbyterian Church where he was a former Deacon and Elder. He was a lifetime member of the Dew Drop Masonic Lodge # 266 AFM where he was a former Worshipful Master. He was also a Shriner and a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple in Greenville, SC as well as the Abbeville County Shrine Club where he served as a past president. Martin will be remembered for his kind and caring demeanor and his willingness to help others. His loving family and his many friends will miss him.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Mary Wilson Saylors of the home; a daughter, Marty Jane Fowler and her husband, Frank of Abbeville, SC; a brother, Steve Fisher Saylors and his wife, Nancy of Abbeville, SC; granddaughter, Shanna SmithKeller and her husband, Tony of Greenwood, SC; great grandson, Evan Keller, the apple of his eye.

Two brothers, William Herbert Saylors, Jr. and Wilton Talmadge Saylors and one sister, Bobbie Jean Gassaway preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday Nov. 27, 2013 at 2:00 PM in Little Mountain Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Christopher Meyer III officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at the home 41 Flat Rock Rd. Abbeville, SC.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 6:30 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Martin was one of my all-time favorite people since 1966 when we first met. I am so sorry that we won't see and talk with Martin on this earth again, but I look forward to the time we will all be together in Heaven.

Our hearts hurt for ya'll as we will have you all in our prayers for some time to come. He was so loved by all and a good person to everyone. I know he loved life and enjoyed every minute of his family and friends. Niki thought the world of Grandaddy and love to spend time there with Shana. Our, family and I, would like to offer Mr. Martin Saylor's,family, our most sincere condolonces at this time of sorrow. we met Mr. Saylors at his job and he was allways very willing to take a few minutes and help us with information , since we were new to the area. We had the priviledge to enjoy his friendship for only a few years but he will be missed and remember ,allways in our prayers.May the Lord, find a place of refreshment, light and peace for his soul. Just saw him at last homecoming, and took a picture of both him and Mary-- dear folks!Remember him when I was his pastor in early 60''s. He and Mary were at Wilson''s store where they pumped gas into my car and served me good hash! PerformedMy first wedding for Mary''s sister,"spooge". Very kind and appreciative!
