Marion "Penny" Franklin McAlister

November 23, 1922 — June 15, 2008

Marion Franklin "Penny" McAlister, 85, resident of 119 Moore St. husband of Bernice McKee McAlister passed away peacefully Sunday June 15, 2008 at the Hospice House in Greenwood, SC.

Born in Greenville, SC he was the son of the late Bonham and Sally Winkler McAlister Carithers.

Penny was a 1949 Graduate of Clemson College and was a United States Army veteran of WWII serving with the Field Artillery Unit in the European Theatre. He retired in Textile Management with Burlington Textiles with over 46 years of service.He was an active member of Southside Baptist Church. He will be remembered as a loving and caring family man and devoted friend of many.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Bernice McKee McAlister of the home; 1 sister, Dorothy Riser of Ninety Six, SC; 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son M.F. "Copper" McAlister, Jr. and a daughter Sandra Jordan Vermette; a brother C.D. McAlister and 2 sisters Faye Leopard and Carolyn James.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted Wednesday at 4:00 PM at the Chandler Chapel of Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Hartley officiating. Burial will follow at a later date.

The family is at the home 119 Moore St. Abbeville, SC.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 PM Wednesday afternoon prior to services.
