Marion Carroll Hawthorne

October 10, 1926 — January 9, 2014

Marion Carroll Hawthorne, 87, resident of 1483 Hwy. 185 South passed away Friday Jan. 9, 2014 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Abbeville Co. SC he was a son of the late Charlie Lee Hawthorne and Ethel Nickles Hawthorne. Carroll was twice married first to the late Gladys Tinsley Hawthorne and Virginia Nickles Hawthorne.

Carroll was a retired automotive mechanic. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. Carroll was a devoted member of Greenville Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and Elder of the church. He was Superintendent of Sunday School for over 40 years. He will be remembered for his kind and caring demeanor and his love for his family and friends.

Survivors include two daughters Ann and Beth Hawthorne of Donalds, SC; three sisters Agnes H. Latimer of Donalds, SC, Mary Emma Bowie of Due West, SC and Dora Hewitt of Florence, SC.

He was preceded in death by a sister Lois Hatch and a brother William Hawthorne.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday Jan. 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM in Greenville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jonathan Bowling officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at the home 152 Breckenridge St. Donalds, SC.

The family will receive friends in the sanctuary of the church following graveside services.
