Margaret Gilliam Copeland, 84, resident of Due West Retirement Center, widow of Guy Hunter Copeland, Jr., passed away Tuesday Dec. 23, 2008 at Carlisle Nursing Center in Due West, SC.
Born in Abbeville, SC she was a daughter of the late Oscar Motte and Margaret McKenzie Gilliam.
Her mother died when she was 11 months old and she was raised by her aunt Clara Lee Gilliam Brown. She was a homemaker and wife of the late Guy Hunter Copeland, Jr. having done extensive traveling in Panama and Europe during Mr. Copeland's military career. She was also a loyal member of Sharon United Methodist Church. She will be remembered for her warm smile and loving manner.
Survivors include a daughter Linda Wessels and husband Tom of Atlanta, Georgia; grandsons Gregory Wessels and his wife Alison and their 4 year old twins of Basking Ridge, NJ, Kevin Wessels and his new bride Johanna of Wilmington, Delaware; half sister Cleo Juanita Skinner of Florence, SC; special friends like sisters Clara Brown Harrison and Frances Brown Sefton.
She was preceded in death by a sister Jenny Dyar and a brother James Andrew "Buddy" Gilliam.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday Dec, 28, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Chandler Chapel of Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Copeland is at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after the service at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Michael Gilliam 1797 Hwy. 72 Abbeville, SC.
