Lula Marie Hicks Martin

Lula Marie Hicks Martin, 94, resident of The Magnolias of Anderson, SC formerly of 616 Church St., Abbeville, SC, widow of Walter L. Martin, Sr. died Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at The Anderson Area Medical Center in Anderson, SC.

Born March 16, 1909 in Abbeville Co., she was a daughter of the late Luther C. and Leila Timms Hicks.

She was educated in the Abbeville Co. Schools and retired as a textile employee with Abbeville Mills. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Abbeville, SC where she was active teaching Junior and Intermediate Departments for 23 years, a member of W.M.U. serving as prayer chairman for 20 years and a member of the Bristow Sunday School Class, Member/Secretary of Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W., a volunteer at Abbeville Co. Memorial Hospital for 18 years.

Survivors are: a daughter, Carolyn O'Dell and her husband Jack of Anderson, SC; daughter-in-law, Reba M. Martin, wife of the late Walter L. Martin, Jr.; 3 granddaughters, Catherine O. Fields and her husband Robert of Anderson, SC, Christaina M. Blackwood and her husband Travis of Roebuck, SC, Alexis M. Martin and her husband Josh Brown of Anderson, SC; 4 great-grandsons, Zachary and Caleb Blackwood and Mason and Hudson Brown; brother, Marvin H. Hicks of Malakoff, Texas.

She was preceded in death by a son, Walter L. Martin, Jr.; a granddaughter, Nancy Rebecca O'Dell; brother, L.C. Hicks, Jr.; and sisters, Lois Wasson and L.E. Huff.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 15, 2004 at 3:00PM from Abbeville First Baptist Church with Rev. Reiny Koschel officiating. The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery in Abbeville, SC.

The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home in Abbeville, SC. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:30 in the social hall of the Abbeville First Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30 Thursday afternoon.
