Lucille Whitten McCurry

Lucille Whitten McCurry, 103, resident of Abbeville Residential Care formerly of 1290 Island Ford Rd. widow of Lloyd B. McCurry passed away Friday Oct. 19, 2012 at Abbeville Area Medical Center.

Born in Laurens Co. SC she was a daughter of the late Joseph Whitten and Augusta Scott Whitten.

Mrs. Lucille was a retired textile employee having worked for Abbeville Mills and the Abbeville Shirt Plant. After retirement she worked a number of years in the Sharon School lunch room. She was an accomplished seamstress specializing in the making of baby doll dresses. Mrs. Lucille was a lifelong member of Sharon United Methodist Church and its oldest living member at her death. She was a former Sunday School Teacher and also served on various committees within the church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends and will be missed by them all.

Survivors include 2 daughters: Alice Wheeler of Vienna, Virginia and Norma Mattison of Monticello, Georgia; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son William Joseph McCurry and a daughter Billie M. Bujanski.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday Oct. 21, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Chandler Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Eric Sheppard. A private family burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to services. The family is at the home 1290 Island Ford Rd. Abbeville, SC.
