Lucille Payton Davis, 76, resident of 2509 Old Calhoun Falls Rd. wife of Gaines C. Davis, Sr. passed away Monday Oct. 6, 2008 at her home.
Born in Elberton, GA she was a daughter of the late William N. and Estelle Payton Jones.
She was a retired employee of Fieldcrest Cannon Manufacturing Plant. She was a loyal and dedicated member of Warrenton Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the ladies Sunday School Class which she also taught. She was also the teacher of the youth Sunday School Class. For many years she was the youth advisor for the church. She was also very active in the Women of the Church. Lucille will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and her many friends.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 59 years Gaines C. Davis, Sr. of the home; 2 sons Gaines C. "Skip" Davis, Jr. and his wife Phyllis of Abbeville, Edwin M. Davis and his wife Dee Ann of Abbeville, SC; 1 daughter Rita Davis Blue and her husband Jim of Huntsville, Alabama; 7 grandchildren Tammy Sutherland and her husband Scott of Abbeville, Kerri C. Davis of the home, Kelly Davis and Jonathan R. Davis both of Abbeville, Christopher Ryan, Matthew Ryan and Ashley Ryan all of Huntsville, Alabama; 2 great-grandchildren Kaleb Davis of the home and Davis Manley Sutherland of Abbeville; 5 sisters Geraldine Adams of Iva, SC, Patricia Cox of Iva, SC, Edith Hulme of Elberton, GA, Sandra Bond of Elberton, GA and Bertha West of Savannah, GA.
She was preceded in death by a brother William N. Jones, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday Oct. 8, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Warrenton Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ed Kirkpatrick officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at the home 2509 Old Calhoun Falls Rd.
Lucille is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday evening.
Pallbearers will be Kaleb Davis, Matthew Ryan, Christopher Ryan, Jonathan Davis, Scott Sutherland and Justin Wood.
