John "Johnny" Floyd McMahan

September 17, 1934 — August 10, 2012

John F. "Johnny" McMahan, 77, resident of 264 3rd Ave Lake Secession, husband of Polly Gooch McMahan, passed away Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.

Born in Abbeville, SC, he was a son of the late Floyd F. McMahan and Sadie Lewis McMahan.

Johnny was a retired textile employee with Mohawk Industries (Rocky River) with 39 years of service. Upon his retirement he worked a number of years at Diamond Hill Elementary School. He was also a mason and a member of the Iva Lodge # 238 for 50 years. He was a very active member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple in Greenville, SC where he was active with the Hejaz Fireman's Unit. He served as Chief of the Unit for 5 years. He was a loyal and faithful member of Midway Baptist Church. Johnny will be remembered for his love of life and his friendly personality. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and making memories with his kind and loving family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Polly Ann McMahan of the home; 1 son, Terry McMahan and his wife Diana of Iva, SC; 1 daughter, Susan Burton and her husband Gerald of Iva, SC; 1 sister, Jackie Bonds of Abbeville, SC; 3 grandchildren, Robert Parnell (Katie), Denise Todd (Walter) and Angie Strickland (Mike); 4 great-grandchildren, Hunter Parnell, Lillie Grace Strickland, Dakota Todd and Caden Parnell. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters Mildred Beeker, Glendle Roper and Winona Bonds and 4 brothers George, Harold, Ray and Ed McMahan.

A Celebration of Johnny's life will be conducted Sunday, August 12, 2012 at 3:30 PM at Midway Baptist Church with the Rev.'s Terry Greer, Chad Charles and Mr. John Ed McMahan officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00 until 3:00 PM in the Social Hall at Midway Baptist Church prior to services. The family is at the home 264 3rd Ave. Lake Secession.
