John Lewis Guy

John Lewis Guy, Sr., 79, resident of 554 J.T. Ashley Rd. husband of Audrey Ashley Guy passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.

Born in Abbeville, SC he was a son of the late Edward Douglas Guy, Sr. and Florence Sprouse Guy.

Dr. Guy was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict having served aboard the USS Hector AR7. He was a graduate of Clemson College and was until this day a loyal and faithful supporter of Clemson University. Dr. Guy was a graduate of The Medical University of South Carolina having served his residency at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg, SC. He was also Board Certified with the SC Family Medicine Association. He retired from his medical practice after having over 50 years of service to residents in Inman, Anderson and Abbeville, SC and also Hartwell, GA.

He was a mason and member of the Clinton Lodge #3 AFM and a Shriner and member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple in Greenville, SC. Dr. Guy was a loyal supporter of the SC Highway Patrol Association and a former member of the NRA. He was an avid NASCAR Racing fan having also served as NASCAR's Medical Doctor. He was an active outdoorsman and especially enjoyed cat fishing at Santee Cooper. Dr. Guy upheld the promise he made upon entering the medical field by practicing the 'Hippocratic Oath' until his death.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey A. Guy of the home; two daughters, Elizabeth Harby Williams and husband Sandy of Abbeville, SC and Linda Douglas Guy and companion, Rita of Woodland, GA; and three sons, John L. Guy, Jr. and wife Ellen of Jacksonville, FL, George V. Guy of Abbeville, SC, Edward Phillip Guy "Ed" and wife Susie of Abbeville, SC; two step-sons, Rocky Guy of Honea Path, SC and Christopher Guy and wife Sarah of Baltimore MD.

He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, John L. Guy, III "Trey" and wife Whitney, Summer Fredette and husband Joe, Taylor, Brent, Rebecca King and husband Stephen, Zac Hutcherson, Erin Powell, Carlie and husband Tyler Brooks, Ean, Evan, Elyse, Morgan, Ben, John David and Dustin; 11 great-grandchildren, Riley, Rivers, Madyn, Stephen, Jackson, Jenna, Jacob, Ashlyn, Caleb and Jacob. He is also survived by his beloved dog "Lucy".

Dr. Guy was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Patty W. Guy and grandson John Jacob Guy and brother Edward D. Guy, Jr.

Services will be conducted Wednesday Jan. 25, 2012 at 2:00 PM in Trinity Episcopal Church with Father Kenneth Tucker officiating. The family will receive friends after services in the Parish House at Trinity Episcopal Church. The family is at the home 550 J.T. Ashley Rd.
