Jimmie “Jim” Hugh Bishop, 76, husband of Carol Marino Bishop, resident of Bomber Court, Ninety Six, entered into rest Saturday May 11, 2024, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 28, 1947 in Greenville to the late Babe and Margaret Sherman Bishop, he was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in Vietnam. Jim was a Deputy Sheriff for Greenville County until he and Carol started driving trucks in 1979. After Carol became a mom, he continued to drive for several years and was awarded the Million Mile Safe Driver Award from Ryder. Jim then served as the field supervisor for Greenwood County Parks and Recreation until he was promoted to Director of Animal Control.
He was a member of Emerald Baptist Church and a former member of the Lower Lake Fire Department where he served as Battalion Chief.
Surviving other than his loving wife of 45 years, of the home, are his children, Jimmie R. Bishop (Kristi) of Lexington, W.C. “Cody” Bishop (Gina) of Greenwood, Katie B. Weaver (Joseph Mathis) of Edgefield, and Brady M. Bishop (Shay Hughes) of Ninety Six; his grandchildren, Bailee Bishop, Kayleigh Russ, Ryan Bishop, Jakub Bishop, Banks Bishop, Ashlyn Paige Weaver, Sydney Weaver, and McKenzie Webb. His special furry companion, Tyler Perry Bishop.
A family and friends gathering will be conducted Wednesday May 15, 2024 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home, 208 S Main St. Abbeville, SC 29620.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
