James Robert Purdy

James Robert Purdy, 89, resident of 241 Bell Road, Antreville Community, husband of Almeta Nelson Purdy, passed away Monday, December 19, 2011 at his home with his loving family by his side.

Born in Anderson Co. SC, he was a son of the late Samuel Pierce Purdy and Amy McKee Purdy.

James was a United States Army veteran having served during World War II. He was a retired construction Superintendent with Meeks Construction. He was also an active member of Rocky River Baptist Church. He will be affectionately missed by his loving family and many friends.

Survivors are his beloved wife of 65 years, Almeta Nelson Purdy of the home; 1 daughter, Sandra P. Cobb of Anderson, SC; 2 sons, James R. Purdy and his wife, Gail, of Anderson, SC and Harold Dirk Purdy and his wife, Jane, of Iva, SC; 2 brothers, Samuel E. Purdy of Iva, SC and Billy Purdy of Iva, SC; 2 sisters, Doris Simpson of Iva, SC and Hazel Norris of Anderson, SC; 4 grandchildren and 9 Great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll Purdy.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 2:00 PM in Rocky River Baptist Church with the Rev. Steven Payne officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Rites.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Tuesday evening at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home Abbeville, SC.
