James Victor Lomax, Jr., 75, son of the late James V. and Bernice M. Lomax, died Sept. 17, 2009 after several years of declining health. A native of Abbeville and a 1955 graduate of Emory University, Jim's career spanned more than 30 years in banking and financial management positions. He last served as financial officer for the Ozanam Inn, a non-profit shelter for the homeless in New Orleans, until his retirement for health reasons in 2004. Confined to a nursing home in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit that city, he was evacuated to Hickory Manor Nursing Home in Bastrop, LA. He remained there until early September of this year when he returned to New Orleans, his adopted hometown.
He is survived by brothers John Lomax and his wife Evelyn of Greenville and Nick Lomax and his wife Sally of Abbeville along with several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted Sunday September 27, 2009 at 2:00 PM in Long Cane Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends prior to services at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home from 1:00 until 1:45 PM.
