Henry Nickles McIlwain

June 15, 1913 — February 12, 2011

Henry Nickles McIlwain, 97, formerly of 15 McIlwain Rd. widower of Virginia Uldrick McIlwain passed away Saturday Feb. 12, 2011 at Abbeville Nursing Home.

Born in Stoney Point Community of Greenwood County, SC , he was a son of the late Jim Andy McIlwain and Bessie Sharpe McIlwain.

Henry was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was awarded a Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action. He was a retired textile employee with Abbeville Mills after many years of service. Henry was also a member of Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church. He will be remembered by many of his friends and family for his delicious homemade sweet potato pies.

Survivors include 1 sister, Eleanor McKee of Gray Court, SC and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 3 brothers Lewis, Bill and Harold McIlwain and 3 sisters Sarah McIlwain, Eula Rudd and Mary Reid.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday Feb. 17, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. John Miller officiating. The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery with Military Rites.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Thursday afternoon prior to services in the social hall at Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church.
