Helen Rice Scroggs

July 3, 1920 — June 3, 2012

Helen Rice Scroggs, 91, widow of James Roy Scroggs, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Abbeville Area Medical Center.


Born July 3, 1920 in Great Falls, SC, she was the daughter of Easton Rice and Maggie Lockaby Rice. She was a resident of Abbeville for 74 years and a founding member of Southside Baptist Church.



She is survived by her son, Harold C. Scroggs (Beverly) of Durham, NC; a grandson, Barry C. Scroggs (Bonnie) of Abbeville; great-grandsons, Nicholas Scroggs, Stephen Scroggs, Luke Scroggs and Storm Scroggs (Angie); step great-granddaughters, Sommer Templeton and Alyssa Driver; 3 great, great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel Rice Holman of Fairplay, SC and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Tony Scroggs; brothers, Ralph Rice and William Rice; and sisters, Annette Watkins and Bobbie Jo Collins.




The family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon from 1 until 2:00 P.M. at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 2:30 P.M. in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Rev. Earl Hartley officiating.




In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials are made to Southside Baptist Church PO Box 237 Abbeville, SC 29620.
