Harold E. McNeill

April 29, 1932 — October 11, 2018

In the midst of our sadness, we praise God and give thanks for the life of a man we were privileged and proud to call our Dad, devoted Pa Pa, and dear friend.

On Oct. 11, 2018 at Self Regional Medical Center, Harold Eugene McNeill, 86, beheld the face of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born April 29, 1932 to the late Robert Neuffer McNeill, Sr. and Helen Hall McNeill.

Harold was a resident of 303 Miller St., Abbeville, SC and the widower of Mildred Ann Stone McNeill. Harold known by many as “Mayor, FoBuck” was a man devoted to God and serving people, that was his mission in life. He enjoyed life, spending much of his days delivering flowers and smiles to others with his previous business at Abbeville Florist. His love of the outdoors and his emaculate landscaping, with his loyal companion, “Sumter” by his side.

Harold leaves a legacy of loyalty and devotion as a true public servant to the city/community of Abbeville with his tenure of 16 years, 1996-2000 as city Councilman, 2000-2012 as Mayor and was inducted into the Abbeville Hall of Fame in 2013. He was a retired Master Sergeant with the US Army, Korean Conflict 1951-1953, US Army Reserves 1953-1992, Past Master of the Clinton Lodge #3 AFM, 32nd Degree Master Mason, and a Shriner and member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple. He had a span of Industry history, Retired Human Resources Manager at Carolina Pride, Burlington Industries, Jockey International, Greenwood Mills and Milliken. Harold was a member of Westside Baptist Church where he was instrumental in founding the church.

Survivors include: his son Tony McNeill (Mary) of Abbeville, SC; two daughters Lisa Lumpkin Abbeville, SC and Angie Greeson (Gary) of Abbeville, SC; a brother Paul McNeill (Sandra) of Abbeville, SC; a sister JoAnn Botts of Abbeville, SC; six grandchildren Samantha Henry, Justin McNeill, Jenna Weis (Wes), Lauren Greeson, Kaitlin Greeson and Benji Greeson; one great-grandson Brayden Moore; daughter-in-law Patricia McNeill of Abbeville, SC; his beloved dog Sumter.

He was preceded in death by a son Ronnie McNeill and Brothers Dewitt and Robert Neuffer McNeill, Jr. and a sister Libby Kimsey.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday Oct. 14, 2018 at 2:00 PM in Grace United Methodist Church with the Revs. Marion Argo and Johnnie Waller officiating. The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery with Full Military Honors and Masonic Rites.

The family is at the home of his son Mr. & Mrs. Tony McNeill 720 Hwy. 201 Abbeville, SC and at his home 303 Miller St. Abbeville, SC.
