Gladys Viola Slay Smith

Gladys "Viola "Slay Smith, 77, resident of 116 Calhoun St. widow of Frank Marion Smith passed away Tuesday Nov. 1, 2016 at Hospice Care of the Piedmont.
Born in Abbeville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Steven Albert Slay and Sallie Mae Turman Slay.

Viola was a retired textile employee having worked over 25 years for Monsanto Mills. She was a loyal member of South Side Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her kind and caring nature.

Survivors include two daughters Janet Horton (Mark) of Abbeville, SC and Judy White (Phil) of Greenwood, SC; one son Ronnie Smith (Jenny) of Washington, GA; two brothers Tommy Slay of Abbeville, SC and Johnny Slay of Greenwood, SC; five grandchildren Chance Smith, Jessica Thomas (Trey) of Charleston, SC, Kellie Horton and her fiancé' Michael of Charleston, SC, Brad Baughman and Blake Baughman; six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday Nov. 3, 2016 at the Chandler Chapel in Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Dr. Frank McCoy officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family is at the home of her daughter Dr. & Mrs. Mark Horton 214 Noble Estates Abbeville, SC.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Thursday afternoon prior to services at the funeral home.
