Frank Marion Smith

Frank Marion Smith, 86, resident of 116 Calhoun St. husband of Viola Slay Smith passed away Monday Jan. 28, 2013 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood, SC.

Born in Wilkes County Georgia he was a son of the late Simon Welborn Smith and Mamie Agee Smith.

Frank was a United States Army veteran and was retired from Life of Georgia Insurance Co. with over 20 years of service. Upon retirement Frank worked at Winn Dixie for a number of years and was also the church custodian at Southside Baptist Church. He was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church and the Allen Crawford Men's Sunday School class.

Survivors include his beloved wife Viola Slay Smith of the home; a son Ronnie Smith and his wife Ginnie of Washington, Georgia; 2 daughters Janet Horton and her husband Dr. Mark of Abbeville, SC and Judy White and her husband Phil of Greenwood, SC; 5 grandchildren Chance Smith, Jessica Thomas (Trey) of Charleston, SC, Kellie Horton of Abbeville, SC, Brad Baughman (Amy) of Abbeville, SC and Blake Baughman; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 brother James W. Smith (Linda) of Lincolnton, Georgia; 1 sister Hazel Guy (Ralph) of Augusta, Georgia.

He was preceded in death by a brother Milton Smith.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday Jan. 29, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Earl Hartley officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Military Honors. The family is at the home of his daughter Dr. & Mrs. Mark Horton 214 Noble Estates.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Tuesday afternoon at the funeral home prior to services.
