Frances "Sookie" Able

August 15, 1920 — September 10, 2018

Mrs. Frances Ovenia "Sookie" Scott Able, lifelong resident of Abbeville, SC, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 10th, 2018. Born August 15, 1920, she celebrated life with enthusiasm for 98 years. The daughter of the late George Emmett Scott and Pearl Mahaffey Scott, she was a shining example of the humanity and compassion that resides in each of us.
Sookie lived life with an outgoing flair and fun loving spirit that will undoubtedly leave a hole in our hearts, as well as our small community. She was quick to smile, but quicker to make others laugh. She would often tell people, "Don't call me Miss Sookie, because I don't "miss" a thing!" And true to her words, she didn't, at least not where it mattered most. Her contributions to the local ministries spanning decades will continue to have an impact on others for years to come. Until her health declined, she was an avid member of Grace United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir, two things she loved. Her family was her heart, and she considered everyone family.
Sookie is survived by her son and daughter in law, Johnny and Jean Able of Abbeville, Grandchildren, Tony Able and Camille Wolf of Atlanta, Lisa and Greg Griger of Warner Robbins, Kelly and Mark Gillespie of Atlanta, Scott and Brittney Able of Abbeville, David Able of Columbia, great grandchildren Josh Able of Columbia, Wesley Able, Jolie Able, sister Mary Cartledge, and brother Perrin Scott, all of Abbeville.
She is preceded in death by her late husband Walter Shirley Able, and son Walter Franklin Able.
The family will receive friends at Chandler Jackson Funeral home in Abbeville on Thursday, September 13th at 1:00 pm and services will follow at 2:00 pm. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Abbeville, SC.
The family would like to thank the Teams at Abbeville Nursing Home, Abbeville Area Medical Center, and everyone involved in the care provided to her over the past several years,
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 145 Grace Drive Abbeville, SC 29620.
The family will be at the homestead located at 1288 Cedar Springs Road, Abbeville.
