Floyd Franklin Vinson

November 7, 1915 — September 15, 2003

Floyd Franklin Vinson, 87, of 117 Vinson Drive died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at his home.

Born in Pickens County, he was a WWII Army veteran. He was retired from Milliken Textiles, Abbeville plant, and was also a member of Westside Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Patsy Vinson of the home, Joan Poore of Honea Path and Frances Smith of Greenwood; brothers, Pete Vinson and Jim Vinson, both of Abbeville, George Vinson of Pelzer and Larry Clark of Greenwood; sisters, Gennie Sparks of Abbeville, Ruby McNeil of Piedmont and Irene Fowler of Belton; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was the widower of Florence Blackwell Vinson and a son of the late George Washington and Essie Bryant Vinson and the stepson of the late Lulla Mae Smith Vinson. He was preceded in death by sisters, Frances Webb, Mary Lee Bennett and Linnie Horne; and brother, Leroy Vinson.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Westside Baptist Church with the Revs. James Long and James Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Springs Baptist Church cemetery in Westminster. The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The family is at the home. Memorials may be made to Abbeville County Memorial Hospital, Home Health Division, 105 Court Square, Abbeville, S.C. 29620.
