Dorris Vivian Sternenburg Hall

Dorris Vivian Sternenburg Hall, 86, of Abbeville Nursing Home, widow of James Bruce (J.B.) Hall, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Abbeville Nursing Home.

Born in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Ida Turner Sternenberg. She was a retired educator with the last 33 years working in the Abbeville County Schools. The last six years of her career she was the principal of Calhoun Falls High School. She was a member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church. She served on the Board of Commissioners for Piedmont Technical College. She served on the board of the Abbeville County Hospital. She was very active in civic organizations including the Pilot Club, past president of Abbeville Pilot Club and past International Governor of Pilot Club. She was named Pilot Club Woman of the Year 1977 for Abbeville County.

Surviving are sons, James Bruce "Jimmy" Hall III of Pensacola, Fla., and Mark Hall and Chris Hall, both of Abbeville; daughters, Judy H. Metzler of Zionsville, Ind., and Trudy H. Crittendon of Chiang Mai, Thailand; brother, Max Sternenberg Jr. of Chapin; sister, Grace Cook of Greenville; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Abbeville First Baptist Church by the Rev. Reiny Koschel; burial will be in Midway Baptist Church cemetery, Abbeville. The body is at the Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. The family is at the home of his son, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hall, 116 Ellis Ave., Abbeville.
