Dorothy "Dot" Whitten Smith

Dorothy Whitten Smith, 84, resident of 51 Oak Drive, widow of Ronald Smith passed away Sunday Feb. 22, 2009 at Abbeville Nursing Home.

She was twice married; first to the late Harvey Bowie.

Born in Laurens , SC she was a daughter of the late Charles T. and Janie Gibert Whitten.

She was a retired employee of Milliken, Textiles Abbeville Plant in the weave room where she was a yarn technician.

She was a member of the Frances Eugene Harrison Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church. She was also a former Secretary/Treasurer for the Sharon Fire Dept.

She will be remembered as a loving mother and will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends.

Survivors include her 2 daughters Brenda Grant and her husband Larry of Abbeville, SC, Cindy Price and her husband Pete of Abbeville, SC; 1 son Allen Bowie and his wife Patsy of Abbeville, SC; grandchildren Ed Grant, Johnny Bowie, Brandy Fleming, Dawn Sutton, Suzanne Price and Tolly Price. 10 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday Feb. 24, 2009 at 4:00 PM in Long Cane Cemetery with Mr. Bob Fisher officiating.

Mrs. Smith is at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home of Cindy and Pete Price 90 Magnolia Drive Abbeville, SC.

Memorials in memory of Mrs. Smith may be made to a charity of one's choice.
