Donald Lee Smith 87, husband of LaNettye “Nett” Waters Smith, resident of Hwy 81 N., entered into rest Monday July 21, 2025, at Abbeville Area Medical Center.
Born on May 10, 1938, in Miami, FL to the late Ralph Harry and Martha Hall Smith, he worked as a monkey trainer at Monkey Jungle in Homestead Fl. He retired from Sundance Builders.
Don enjoyed fishing and crabbing in the Florida Keys and spending time with his good friends Donny and Bobby Allison. After moving to South Carolina in 1981, he enjoyed bushhogging on his horse farm. He was a dedicated family man that always took care of his family, he especially loved his grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife of 67 years, of the home; his children, Donna “DeeDee” Polovits (Michael) and Barbara “JoJo” Finley (Keith) all of Iva; his grandchildren, Joshua Polovitz, Christopher Lee Smith (Jessica), Justin Michael Polovitz, Kiefer Jo Finley (Kristen), and Savannah Grace Polovitz. He was predeceased by a son, Thomas Lee Smith, brothers, Harry Smith, Roy Smith, and Jimmy Smith, sisters, Salley Diaz, and Martha Jane Baker.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Barbara and Keith Finley, 5874 Hwy. 81 N., Iva, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vets Helping Vets Anderson, P.O. Box 265, Anderson, SC 29622.
