Clarence DeWitt Agan

Dr. Clarence DeWitt Agan Sr., 91, formerly of 44 Agan Road, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Abbeville Nursing Home.

Born in Bremen, Ga., he was a retired Pharmacist. He graduated from The Atlanta School of Pharmacy and was the owner and operator of the Abbeville Drug Company for many years. Upon retirement he was the owner and operator of Agan Realty. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a Rotarian and was a charter member of the Abbeville Rotary Club and was Paul Harris Fellow.

He served on the Abbeville County School Board District 60 for 10 years. He received the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame Award. He was also a Gideon and a member of the Abbeville Camp. He was formerly on the Abbeville County Development Board. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and a member of the men's Bible class. He was also a former Sunday school teacher.

Surviving are son, Clarence D. "Buddy" Agan Jr. of Abbeville; daughters, June Prince, Jane Agan and Carolin Ann McLane, all of Abbeville; brother, Rev. V.O. Agan of Glencoe, Ala.; sister, Clarice Parrott of Ocala, Fla.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was the widower of Mary Elisabeth Campbell Agan and the son of the late Luther M. and Lona Posey Agan.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday from Main Street United Methodist Church by the Revs. Jimmy Agan and Leon Thompson; burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Family members will be at the home of his daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Rayford Prince, 83 Agan Road, Abbeville.

The family suggests memorials be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, Stain Glass Fund, P.O. Box 656, Abbeville, S.C. 29620.
