Claire Gorczyca Thower, 73, widow of the late Richard Murray Thower, resident of Oakwood Lane, entered into rest Friday, June 27, 2025, at her residence.
Born on December 9, 1951 in Newton, NJ to the late Anthony and Elizabeth Bart Gorczyca, Claire received her B.A. from Heidelberg University in Tiffin, OH. She loved music and loved teaching music, she taught in Aiken County Schools, Abbeville County Schools and retired from Greenwood School District 50.
A member of Scared Heart Catholic Church, she also attended Trinity Episcopal Church and enjoyed playing the organ at both churches.
Surviving are her children, Richard “Rick” Murray Thower, Jr. of Abbeville, and Amy Thower Willis (Steven) of Elgin; her sister Margi Gorczyca of Spartanburg; her grandchildren, Grayson and Athena; numerous aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Betsy Godbey.
A celebration of life service will be conducted Monday July 7, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. from the Chandler Chapel of Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Wicker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church Restoration Fund, P.O. Box 911, Abbeville, SC 29620.
