Christine "Chris" Oakley Berry

Christine "Chris" Oakley Berry, 92, formerly of 107 Pineview St. Abbeville, South Carolina, passed away Thursday January 26, 2012, at her home in San Diego, California. She was the widow of Henry Lee Berry.

Born in Danville, Virginia on Dec. 8, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Walter Oakley and Blanche Elliott. She was a member of South Side Baptist Church in Abbeville, South Carolina.

Chris was a retiree from Abbeville Farm Bureau Insurance Co., where she served as secretary for 20+ years and helped manage office activities. She enjoyed canning vegetables and cooking for family from her lake house in McCormick, South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald "Ronnie" Berry of San Diego, California.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Janice Berry of San Diego, California; Judi (Bill) Farris of Heber, Arizona; and Jean (Alan) Wright of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; a son Don (Susan) Berry of Abbeville, South Carolina; a sister Doris Miner of Abbeville, South Carolina; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday Feb. 3, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Hartley officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home and prior to the service on Friday.
