Charles "Charlie" Henry Grantham

Charles 'Charlie' Henry Grantham, 90, resident of 334 Old Douglas Mill Rd. husband of Sallie Palmer Grantham died Tuesday Jan. 1, 2008 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson, SC.

He was twice married first to the late Eleanor Bradford Grantham. Born in Webb, Arizona he was a son of the late Robert L. and Mussette Powell Grantham.

Charlie was a Graduate of the University of Arizona class of 1941 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He was a veteran B-25 Pilot with the Army Air Core having flown over 50 missions in South Africa and Italy. He was later a Flight Instructor with Columbia Air Force Base.

Early on, Charlie was a 4-Reel Chaps and Spurs working cowboy in Arizona having managed the Rain Valley Ranch during the filming of the Red River movie. Charlie was a retired textile employee with Abbeville Mills.

He was also a mason and a member of the Clinton Lodge # 3 AFM. Charlie was an avid golfer and a charter member of the High Meadows Country Club. He also enjoyed gardening. He was a member and former deacon of the Abbeville Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years Sallie Palmer Grantham of the home; 4 sons, Buddy Grantham of Salem, Virginia, Jim Grantham of Pickens, SC, John Grantham of Evans, GA and Tom Grantham of Abbeville, SC; 2 step-daughters Rebecca Greene of Foley Beach, SC and Barbara Shimakonis of Summerville, SC; 1 sister Irma Logan of Fayetteville, Ark.; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday Jan. 3, 2008 at 3:00 PM from the Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Michael Bush officiating. The burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery with Military Rites. The family is at the home 334 Old Douglas Mill Rd.

The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home where the family will recieve friends from 1:00 until 3:00 PM Thursday afternoon prior to services.
