Carroll Schulken Weis

Carroll Schulken Weis, 96, resident of Wesley Commons, widow of Otto Weis, died Sunday September 11, 2011 at Hospice House in Greenwood, SC.

Carroll was born September 2, 1915, in Wilmington, NC, to Eugene Petteway Schulken and Irene Bass Schulken and was predeceased by her sister, Irene, and brother, Gene.

She was graduated in 1935 from the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina (now UNC - Greensboro), and taught for two years in Bolivia, NC.

In 1937 she married "Ott" and continued living in Wilmington until he returned from his U.S. Army Air Force European tour of duty in 1945. In 1946, they moved to Columbia, SC.

Following Ott's death in 1992, Carroll moved to Greenwood, SC, in 1995, to be near her only child, Alan, and his family. She had been a resident of Wesley Commons since 1997.

She is survived by a son, Alan Weis, and his wife Paula, two grandsons, Robert Weis, and Charles (Wes) Weis and his wife Nicki, and great-granddaughter Mason Grace Weis, all of Abbeville.

Graveside services will be held in Columbia, SC on Tuesday Sept. 13, 2011 at 2:00 PM in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road with the Rev. Carol Peppers-Ray officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Weis to Hospice House, HospiceCare of the Piedmont, Inc., 408 West Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646, or a charity of one's choice.

The family is at the home of her son, Alan, at 21 Highway 72 East, Abbeville, SC.
