Betty Abercrombie Pitts New

Betty Abercrombie New, 79, resident of 301 Brooks St. wife of Tommy New passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Abbeville Nursing Home.

Born in Honea Path, SC, she was a daughter of the late William Hoke Abercrombie and Nancy Brown Abercrombie.

She was a retired textile employee with Riegel Mills and was formerly a dispatcher with the Ware Shoals Police Dept. She was a faithful member of the Southern Squares Square Dancing Club for over 25 years. She was also a loyal member of Grace United Methodist Church. Betty will be remembered as a loving mother and wife she will be missed by her many friends.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas A. "Tommy" New of the home; 4 daughters, Nancy Wrenn, Becky Hughes, Judy Pitts all of Ware Shoals and Vickie Baumgardner of Goose Creek, SC; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

She was twice married first to the late Thomas Wilbur Pitts. She was also preceded in death by a brother Joel Franklin "Jake" Abercrombie.

A Celebration of Betty's life will be conducted Friday February 4, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Chandler Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with the Rev. Jason Wilson officiating. The family is at the home 301 Brooks St. Abbeville, SC.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Friday afternoon prior to services at the funeral home.
