Bernice McKee McAlister

Bernice McKee McAlister, 87, resident of 119 Moore St., widow of Marion F. "Penny" McAlister, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 at Abbeville Nursing Home.

Born in Easley, SC, she was a daughter of the late Howard P. McKee and Roberta Baker McKee.

Bernice was a retired homemaker. She and her late husband, known as Penny, owned and operated a Chicken Farm in Siler City, NC for many years. Bernice was an active member of Southside Baptist Church. Prior to her death Bernice wrote this: "I was born in a Christian home, loved by my parents, sisters and brothers, my loving husband and children and most of all by my Lord. This is not to be a funeral service but a celebration of my life which God has been so good to me. I love all my nieces and nephews and all my in-laws. They have been so good to me and my dear friends which it has been so good to know. I have a wonderful church and church family and a dear pastor and wife Earl & Mary Hartley".

Survivors include 2 grandsons Mac McAlister and his wife, Allison, and Frank Jordan; 1 granddaughter, Carolyn Jordan; 5 great-grandchildren Deveny, Talisa, Lauren, Anna and Georgia; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Marion F. "Copper" McAlister, Jr. and a daughter, Sandra Vermillion.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Feb. 28, 2011 at 3:00 PM in the Chandler Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with the Rev.'s Earl Hartley and Ray Massey officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family is at the home of her niece, Mrs. Donna Irby 118 Woodland Way Abbeville, SC 29620.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 PM prior to services on Monday afternoon at the funeral home.
