Attilio A. Ceraldi, MD, former surgeon who practiced in Abbeville, passed away on September 30, 2015 after a long illness.
He was born in Mondragone, Italy in 1928, the son of Michele Ceraldi and Concetta Conte.
He received his medical degree from Rome University Medical School in 1951 and performed his residency in general surgery at the Veterans Administration hospital affiliated with the Maryland Medical School and Hopkins University in Baltimore from 1962 to 1967.
He was a general surgeon for the VA hospitals in Columbia, SC and Salisbury, NC. He also practiced surgery in Abbeville, SC for 10 years from 1969 to 1979. He was certified by the American Board of Surgery and was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He retired in 1991. He was a member of Saints Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville, NC.
Survivors include his wife, Nickell Sizemore Ceraldi, a son Christopher , surgeon in Abbeville, SC, son Mark, a mechanical engineer in Cornelius, NC, and daughter Katherine Mills, a librarian in Ashville, NC, and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Gina, in Florence, Italy, and other relatives in Italy.
