Neuffer Fleming, Jr.

February 20, 1931 ~ September 21, 2018 (age 87)

Neuffer Fleming, Jr., 87, resident of 4921 Hwy. 28 North husband of Dorothy Williams Fleming passed away Friday Sept. 21, 2018 at Hospice Care of the Piedmont in Greenwood, SC.
He was born in Abbeville Feb 20, 1931 to Neuffer Fleming, Sr. and Ludie Mae Fleming. He graduated from Antreville High School in 1947. He served in the United States Air Force as a military policeman and was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Milliken Textiles for 50 years. He won Truck Driver of the Month by the South Carolina Trucking Association in April 1999.
He was a charter member of the Antreville Fire Department, where he served as chief for 32 years. He was Fire Fighter of the year for Abbeville County in 2007. He was a constable in the Antreville area for 7 years. He was a lifelong member of Little Mountain Presbyterian Church where he was part of the Adult Sunday school class. He previously served as deacon, elder, and church treasurer. He was instrumental in helping raise the funds needed to build the church's sanctuary, and the new fellowship hall. He previously served on the Title III Advisory Board for Abbeville County and Abbeville County Fire Commission.
Surviving are a son, Mike Fleming (Julie) of Abbeville and a daughter Susan Poteat (Will) of Abbeville. Five grandchildren, Allison Fields (Cody), Katie Fleming (fiancée Josh Cook), Emily Poteat, Taylor Fleming and Andrew Poteat, all of Abbeville. One great-granddaughter, Calli Fields. One surviving sister Betty Lowe of Saylors Crossroads. He was predeceased by two sisters; Doris Faulkner and Sara Underwood.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday Sept. 24, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Little Mountain Presbyterain Church with the Revs. Charmaine Miles and Darrell Fetzer officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery with Fireman Funeral Honors.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. The family is at the home 4921 Hwy. 28 Abbeville, SC.
Pallbearers are firefighters of the Antreville Fire Department. Honorary pall bearers are members of the Adult Sunday School class at Little Mountain Presbyterian Church.
